How to keep your shower curtain clean?

Unfortunately, hard water deposits build upon the material of the shower curtain and trap soap scum. This mixture of debris, scum, mold, and general dirt often accumulates at the bottom of the shower curtain.

To avoid buildup, choose your new curtain with care.

– The length and width of the curtain should match the size of the shower enclosure. If the curtain is too long, it will not be able to dry after the shower. If the curtain stays damp for an extended period of time, black or brown mold stains may appear. Mold should not accumulate. If it is visible on the shower curtain, it should be washed off or removed as soon as possible. Inhaling the spores of this fungus is known to be harmful to health. – The choice of fabric should be according to the desires and needs of the user. The easiest to care for may be a water-repellent polyester curtain.

– Cleaning instructions for shower curtains should be clearly visible and appropriate to the hostess’ washing and equipment capabilities.

– To encourage reasonable care of the curtains, the color and style should be pleasing to the occupants of the home.

Remember to always spread the curtain wide after the shower to allow it to dry as quickly as possible.

How to keep your shower curtain clean

– Before you buy a shower curtain, read the cleaning instructions.

– The easier the item is to clean, the more likely it is to be washed often.

– Can you wash it in the washing machine? This is the quickest and easiest way to keep the curtain clean.

– If the care instructions state that the curtain needs to be washed by hand, think twice. Washing such a large item by hand may require a bathtub to be successful. This takes much more time and effort and will likely result in soiling!

– After washing, most curtains should either be hung to dry outdoors or hung back on the hooks of the shower rod to dry naturally.

Tips for cleaning shower curtains

No one wants to take a shower or bath, get cleaned up, and then see a dirty, unwashed shower curtain. Unfortunately, your shower curtain will also get dirty. When it’s humid and a lot of soap scum accumulates, you’re dealing with a dirty shower curtain. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to clean your shower curtain.

1. remove the shower curtain.

Remove the shower curtain from the rod or rail and remove the hooks from the eyelets.

2. if possible, wash it in the washing machine.

If the shower curtain is not too dirty and machine washable, put it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with a little mild detergent. If you do this regularly, your shower curtain will stay clean and nice, and you won’t have to worry about mold or other insects.

One tip I’ve read is to wash your shower curtain with a towel or two – this will absorb the moisture as you spin it in the washing machine, and you won’t have to worry about water getting everywhere when you take the curtain out of the machine. Hang the curtain over the tub and open it fully to dry.

3. additional cleaning

If the shower curtain cannot be machine washed or is no longer machine washable, place it on a flat surface (preferably a hard surface outdoors).

Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands (and old clothes) and prepare a mixture of one liter of warm water and one cup of bleach. Wipe the curtain with the mixture and sponge on one side, taking care not to get the mixture on the surrounding plants.

Rinse the curtain thoroughly, then turn it over and repeat the process on the other side. Dry the curtain and evaluate the result.

4. use a bathtub if necessary.

If you don’t have an outdoor area to work on, you can also clean the curtain in the tub. Fill the tub with hot water, add dishwashing detergent and some bleach and leave the shower curtain to soak in it for about 2 hours, then rinse it off.

5. radical measures

Sometimes the mold is not so easy to get rid of. If that’s the case, and you know you’ll have to buy a new curtain if it doesn’t go away, try spraying the mold with undiluted bleach (remember to wear rubber gloves and follow the instructions on the bottle!

6. regular cleaning

If nothing helps, it’s best to buy a new curtain, make sure it’s machine washable, and get in the habit of washing it regularly!

You can wash the curtain in a regular washing machine. Just use about 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of bleach. Then add white towels and the usual amount of your regular washing powder and run the machine. Also, use a little liquid fabric softener. Do not run the machine on hot – plastic curtains can melt.

Once you’ve washed the curtain, don’t put it in the dryer (again, it could melt). Instead, just hang it in its normal place on the shower rod and let it dry.

No matter what material your shower curtain is made of, fabric, vinyl, or plastic, you can wash it in the washing machine with a cup of baking soda instead of bleach and vinegar. It is advisable to read the label on the curtain to see if there are any warnings or recommendations.
